The Big Initial

Kristen and Andrew made sure to personalize their wedding – with a “B” that is.  Loving the way their initial floated through the theme of the wedding.  So cute!

SAG Awards – White Dresses

{image a la People.com}

There were a wide range of white gowns at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards 2011.

Amy Adams wore a curve-hugging Hervé L. Leroux, Winona Ryder wore a classic A-line Alberta Ferretti, and a very-pregnant Natalie Portman wore Azzaro.

That Perfect Market: Epicure Miami Beach

Here in Miami, perfect food markets are few and far between.  The closest we get to a specialty market is Whole Foods – which by the way, was HUGE, when they first made their may to our shopping centers a few years ago.  But one Miami tradition that has continued to shine, Epicure Market.  Since 1945, this perfect little food market has had the best of meats, produce, a fab bakery, and prepared foods.

I go into Epicure with a clear head and a budget.  Though completely pricey, a container with an Epicure label does not sit in your refrigerator half empty, ever.  If you are ever in Miami Beach, you must go to Epicure – try the tuna and the matzoh ball soup.  You can thank me later.

Daydreaming

{image a la the green dandelion; found at we heart it}

I love, love, love this photo.  It reminds me of the Adventures of Peter Pan.  I love fairytale design concepts.  A few years back, the master of fanciful store displays, Anthropologie, put together a Princess and The Pea bed set-up, and I was equally smitten.

Bird Sanctuary Wedding Venue

Loving the venue, feathers, rich hues – what a great wedding photo shoot.  So editorial!  (I am now going to go decorate my apartment in twigs and feathers.)

From Salt Harbor Designs:

The Brooklyn Arts Center at Saint Andrews is a new venue that recently opened in Wilmington, only a few blocks from the Cape Fear River.  The building is a 122 year old church that was saved from demolition by a builder who has undertaken complete renovation on the space, and it is turning out beautifully.  When Millie Holloman and I decided to do the shoot, we could not wait to use the space.  It is not only full of amazing texture and material, but it is also a space filled with history—architectural, cultural, regional, and spiritual.  A space so full of story creates such a great foundation for shoots and for actual weddings, as well.

When we were choosing a board, we wanted one that spoke to the venue itself.  Naomi’s board was perfect.  Her work has so many layers and meanings, and this board was no different.  To us, it was about sanctuary—the sanctuary that marriage provides for two people—a protected refuge from the world.  But even beyond that, it seemed to speak both to the literal sanctuary that is the main ballroom of the Brooklyn Arts Center and to the architectural sanctuary that exists in this restored historic building.  We wanted to capture these ideas in the pieces of our design, so we focused on things that protect and cover, things that suggest that although the rest of the world may be cold and bitter, there is warmth in the space between two people.

Pet Rock Escort Cards

{image a la love & lavender}

Now this is one smart bride.  Escort cards, seating cards and charts, etc. – these are the last minute items on your I’m-Days-Away-From-The-Wedding agenda.  I applaud every bride who pulls together perfect escort cards, because, truth be told, your guest list and seating chart aren’t finalized until the bitter end.  And days before your big day, there is nothing more stressful than gluing fabric pinwheels to vintage tags (thanks hubby – I couldn’t have done it without you!)

But with the above seating chart, all you need is a sharpie and a rock – bad handwriting is encouraged – the cuter the better.  Plus, what a perfect keepsake – everybody needs a pet rock.

And below … pictures of my handwritten (scribbled) escort cards.
