Halls + Rooms of Flowers
I stumbled across these images on the Free People Blog (which by the way, always has gobs of funky and fabulous inspiration) and I couldn’t resist sharing. I need to get out more, smell the grass, feel the sunshine. Do you make time to to just be outside? Are the great outdoors part of your daily routine or is walking to the mailbox the extent of your trek? I’m the latter (only my husband gets the mail … i.e., no sunshine at all.)
As for the amazing story behind the images – In 2003, artist Anna Schuleit was commissioned to create a massive public art installation called Bloom at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center (MMHC) which was slated for demolition. Nearly 28,000 potted flowers filled almost every square foot of the MMHC including corridors, stairwells, offices and even a swimming pool for the showcase.

Navy, Peach + Pink
I’m forever drawn to the muted staples when it comes to color – blacks, greys, nudes, and so on, but if I’m going to go for color, the classic colors are my sweet spot – peach, navy, peony pink, cream. Whether it’s clothes, art, or design, the navy and peachy-pink hues in these images have me seriously swooning, and considering a navy cardigan (I know, I know, major stretch from a black cardigan.)

Hand-Painted Cakes + Creative Outlets
I’m featuring these jaw-dropping hand-painted cakes over on Glitter Weddings today, but the stunning creations, by the oh-so-talented, Maggie Austin, were too cool not to share here. Each of the former ballerina’s designs looks like a watercolor work of art; almost too good to eat … almost. Maggie even offers a two-day intensive flower workshop in D.C. (where I desperately need to be.)
Also, I’ve noticed that the more I blog, i.e., delve into this unbelievably creative world, the more cities I want to visit and re-visit, and the more creative classes I desperately want to take. In the past week alone I’ve considered pottery, cake painting, wire-wrapping, and novel writing.
Does anyone else have this problem? Do you take classes “just for fun”? Do you have the time or do you make the time?

Moonrise Kingdom
I heart Wes Anderson almost as much as I love Luke Wilson. And Wes Anderson was the matchmaker.
And now I’m very very excited.
Is it May yet?

Clothes Hanger Art
In perusing my Pinterest, a daily routine, I have noticed a trend. I ‘pin’ every image of delicate clothes on hangers. Apparently, I like clothes hangers. Am I the only weirdo with this obsession? You know you like clothes just a little too much, when you would rather have framed pictures of Oscar de la Renta gowns, than a collector’s Monet.
A big goal of mine is to update my hanger stock-pile. I have used plastic hangers since my Freshman year of college and I’m thinking its time for grown-up hangers. If i truly had my druthers (and ample free time), I would bedazzle every single hanger (a la Free People’s past campaign) like a true hanger aficionado.
By the way, Free People has a great tutorial on how to create your own sequin-dipped hangers.

Books of Art
Breathe – no books were harmed in the process. Books of Art by Isaac Salazar, are simply books made stunning … imagine this – by the art of folding. I’m practicing as we speak – but mostly my book just looks like I studied hard.

Roses in the Park
This coming Tuesday, artist Will Ryman will launch an installation called The Roses on Park Avenue — they’re 38 giant pink and red roses, along with beetles, bees, ladybugs, aphids and thorns (which the New York Times says will “stir a sense of foreboding”). Twenty petals will also be scattered on the ground, six of which will double as lawn chairs. The flowers will stay up through May as “the artist’s love letter to New York City.”
And my love affair with NYC continues…
