Beauty + REMBRANDT® INTENSE STAIN®

So I’m going to get on my soapbox for a minute … bear with me.  We all spend all of this time, effort, and money on our beauty regimens.  We all have make-up brands we live for and moisturizer we can’t live without, but other than a quick brush and floss, what are you doing for that smile?  A great smile is such a huge part of your look, but we put so little focus on it.  Celebrities all have these enviable pearly whites, because they put so much effort into their teeth.  And as summer rolls around, and a great pair of sunglasses and a big smile are key to summer beauty, even with the sweetest new shades, without the mega-watt smile, you’re really only half ready.

Plus, we’re all guilty of putting our teeth through the ringer.  Coffee?  Guilty.  Soda?  Guilty.  Tea?  Guilty.  Red wine?  Guilty.  Guilty.  Guilty.  Okay, it’s official, I’m awful to my own pearly whites, while I spend hours and plenty a pretty penny on every shade of lipstick under the sun.

In comes REMBRANDT® INTENSE STAIN® Stain Dissolving Strips.  And thank goodness for that, the guilt was piling up and I was starting to think my teeth weren’t as shiny white as all the celebrities’.

I’ve used at-home whitening strips before … and I’ve hated them.  For our own wedding, I attempted to whiten with whitening strips that I was less than in love with. Have you ever tried pulling off those gloppy strips post-whitening-treatment?  Yuck.

But the geniuses over at REMBRANDT® did one better and figured out a way to make the strips dissolve.  And kudos to a disappearing act well-done!  The REMBRANDT® INTENSE STAIN® Stain Dissolving Strips are so easy to put on, dissolve in a few minutes, and taste great.  I opted to use the strips before bed, no rinse, no problem.  I instantly noticed how shiny and clean my teeth looked, shoving my sparkly grill in my husband’s face, slurring “Look at this!  Look how pretty my teeth look!” between gritted teeth.  My husband loves me.  A lot.

Wearing Lipstick + Hot Pink Lips

Only recently have I delved into the world of lipstick … and I am never coming back. I actually think I flipped sides just before my wedding. A close family friend, and also a Chanel make-up artist, took me wedding make-up shopping a few weeks before the big day. At the makeup counter, I immediately began eagerly flipping through bottles of sparkly gloss. She laughed and steered me towards the lipstick display. The black plastic boxes looked so uninspired and I immediately thought of my grandmother with her peach-hued lipsticks that she and she only could pull off.

But with a bit of coaching and all of the lush shades, I stuck my first toe into the ocean of lipsticks that is now swallowing my bank account. I.can’t.stop.buying.lipstick. Lipstick is velvety smooth, lasts far longer than gloss, creates that perfect pout, and looks far more high fashion than even the glossiest of gloss. I’m still not ready to go lipstick day-to-day, but for a nighttime look or big event (ahem, weddings, anyone?), lipstick is the way to go.

Which brings me to pink lips.  Pink lips are youthful, bold, and a great pop of color.  I’m also in love with bright pink lips on a date – so cheeky and adorable!  I keep buying shades of pink lipstick, and though I love them all, I still haven’t found that perfect fit.  Next on my list to try:  NARS Lipstick in Schiap

Have you found the one?

1. NARS Lipstick in Schiap // 2. Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Fuschia // 3. Maybelline Colorstay Lip Stain in Bitten Berry // 4. MAC Candy Yum Yum Lipstick

If pink’s not your color, check out this post on Red Wine-Stained Lips.  Vampish and gorgeous.

Iris Apfel for Mac Cosmetics

I’m practically giddy over MAC’s latest celebrity-driven pairing with Iris Apfel.  Don’t get me wrong, pop stars like Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj dreamed up a few fabulous shades of hot pink that I barged into department stores for, but this collaboration has my head spinning … because I.WANT.IT.ALL.

I have long been fascinated by New York and Palm Beach based designer, Iris Apfel – her ability to mash together fashion and design never ceases to amaze me.  The eccentric feather-loving designer is now 90 years old and still collaborating.

Apfel was famously quoted – on buying inexpensive clothes – “What the hell, if they don’t fit, I’ll turn them into pillows”.  My kind of lady.

Apfel’s makeup collaboration is undoubtedly fabulous – the 20-piece line, which is mostly named after birds that were featured in a museum exhibit curated by Iris, is full of bright jewel tone hues and deep neutrals.

Stuck on Pink Pigeon and Pretty Parrot … help!

Bobbi Brown: Neons & Nudes

I’m a pale face.  And not in the pretty alabaster-skin kind of way.  Just plain old pale.  So pops of color paired with soft nudes really appeals to me and my pasty, pasty skin.  Plus, Bobbi Brown’s latest Neons & Nudes advertisements are totally sweet.

From Bobbi Brown:

“The most modern way to wear bright color is as an accent on an otherwise neutral face.” — Bobbi Brown

The Neons & Nudes Collection features a unique pairing of bright, neon colors that are balanced by soft nudes and neutrals. Pair a soft, nude eye with a neon lip or a bright eye with a nude lip depending on your mood.

Wine Stained Lips

Totally vampish and perfect for Fall, I am swooning over the wine-stained lips turning up in magazine ads, trendy blogs, and on runways.  The only hitch, not sure I have the guts to wear such a deep berry red.

The wine-stained lip effect works in both a gloss or matte finish.

Or you can try Sugar “Plum” Lip Treatment (tinted chapstick that smells grrreat), if you miss your high-school goth days, but can’t commit to the deep-hued lip just yet.

Would you rock the wine-stained lip trend or this one better off on the girls from The Craft?

Lime Crime

I am currently obsessing over Lime Crime‘s Candyfuture lipsticks!  The candy colors are bright and the finish is opaque, almost matte – perfect for those chalky Spring color brights.

My personal favorites:  Coquette opaque nude lipstick (the best matte nude ever) and Countessa Flourescent opaque lipstick (the perfect Barbie pink).  I also secretly want to try Mint To Be (an opaque lime green) – but survey says, I’ll look nuts.

Swooning yet?

Matte Coral Lips

{image a la because i’m addicted; via ilovewildfox}

My grandma has rocked coral lipstick at daytime events (mauve or any color with the word “berry” in the title are her go-to night colors) for as long as I can remember.  And history … particularly fashion history … always repeats itself.  And 2 + 2 = 4.  Is it time I try the coral lip?

Purple Lipstick

{image a la Citizen Couture; found via The Glitter Guide}

How glam does model, Frida Gustavsson, look in this purple hued lipstick? (And paired with the camel-colored leather jacket = perfection.)  Of course I googled purple lipstick and found a whole slew of purple shades from plum to violet and every color in between.  But I’m thinking if you’re going to go purple, a trip to the beauty counter is much advised.

A few great shades of purple:  Lime Crime Makeup Lipstick in D’Lilac // Beauty Is Life Lipstick in Deep Purple 31 c // Lime Crime Lipstick in Airborne Unicorn // COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lipstick in Entwined // Laura Mercier Lip Colour in Shimmer Plum Wine

Dior Addict Lip Maximizer

{image a la buycosmeticsonline.net}

My favorite Magazine, Glamour, sent over a full-sized bottle of Dior Addict Lip Maximizer.  Yay!

From GLAMOUR + Dior:  This revolutionary product boosts volume instantly thanks to a unique blend of fillers that smooth and moisturize leaving lips irresistably plump.  Apply over lipstick or under gloss for volume and shine.

Let me preface this guinea pig attempt by saying, I am totally wary of lip plumping anything.  For starters, the word “filler” scares me.  And lip plumpers make your lips tingle.   I’m fairly certain your lips weren’t meant to tingle, set to cell phone vibrate.  But I go for it.

The bottle is gorgeous.  I am so taken with the pretty packaging I am tempted to rate this product with five stars and call it a day.

The first thing I notice is the minty taste/smell of the gloss – yum.  The consistency is perfect – thick but in a good way and glossy enough to not need anything over it.  The color is a creamy clear whitish-pink – easy “A” in my book.  My lips are tingling and it’s freaking me out a little.  Then again, if they didn’t tingle, would I think it’s working?  Probably not.  (The tingling eventually subsides and your lips wind up feeling cold – which I actually like.)
