Over-Sized Menswear Coats

Fall trend alert: over-sized menswear coats.  Menswear-inspired trends come and go in women’s fashion; some I like, some I’m neutral on. Tailored menswear trousers – always a win. The classic button-down – though fabulous on most women – not particularly flattering on me (I’m convinced I drown in the crisp collar!) Boyfriend jeans – my obsession.

And the over-sized tweed menswear-inspired coat – it’s my latest love. A bit boxy, full of texture and drama, it can be draped over the shoulders or layered to fight against the Fall chill.  I’m this close to snatching up this fabulous menswear coat from the new Topshop for Nordstrom collection — it has a detachable faux fur collar. #win

My favorite menswear-inspired coats of late …

Or, you could always steal your boyfriend/husband/significant-other’s coat!

Little Love Notes

Dear Schmidt, I know that you’re a fictional character pieced together by the writers of New Girl, and I know that I’m married and all, but we could have really awesome babies together. (See Schmidt’s 2008 Online Dating Profile, set to the intro credits of The Hills.)

Dear Oh Joy, your new illustrated “How I’d Wear …” outfit posts are fabulous (and also make me want to draw again, not that I was ever very good, but still.)

Dear pretty little white coat, you’d look so chic on my shoulders during my crazy adventure at AltSummit in Salt Lake City … in January.  Yes, I plan ahead.  Way ahead.

Dear everyone who lives anywhere but Florida and Southern California, what is cold weather like?  Do your stores sell jackets with lining?  Where does one get a jacket with lining?  Would I look awkward wearing three pairs of jeans (at once) in Salt Lake City?

Dear weekend, I missed you.

Get the origins of these sweet little love notes, here.

Little Love Notes

Dear LuckyFabb + New York Fashion Week, I can’t wait to visit!  (Tickets, booked.)

Dear Friday, I’m so glad you’re here.

Dear week, you have sucked.  We’re not friends at the moment.

Dear Doctors, when delivering crummy news to patients, I’d advise offering up some candy, or at least a sticker.  Just because I’m in my twenties, doesn’t mean a lollipop wouldn’t help.

Dear Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, thank you for your impeccable timing. Today, after work, I will buy boots I don’t need, a coat I most certainly don’t need (Miami is never actually cold), and I will eat a ridiculous plate of french fries at your fabulous cafe, where really I should be ordering salad — but I won’t.

Blue Velvet + Fall Musings

After getting my hands on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale catalog over the weekend, I can’t wait for Fall!  I want velvet, leather, and booties galore!

Exhibit A: my Instagram feed, documenting my obsession with every boot in the catalog, including a very sanzzy pair of blue boots.

I know that we’re right at the helm of Summer and that all common fashion rules detail a clear no velvet after Spring policy, but I’ve never really been one to stay between the lines, so why should I start now? Plus, I really really want blue velvet booties (and sandals, and loafers, and pumps), like yesterday, though perhaps I’ll wear them in the Fall.  And most are on sale now.  Thank you, Summer!

A few fun options (as you can see, my list is long):

Gucci Ankle Strap Velvet Sandal

Loeffler Randall Natane lace-up stiletto

Giuseppe Zanotti Velvet Smoking Flat Loafer

Christian Louboutin ‘Party’ Shoe

Miu Miu Velvet Bow Ballet Flats

ASOS Amos Chelsea Velvet Ankle Boots

Topshop Velvet Ankle Boot

Miu Miu Embroidered velvet leather loafers
