This weekend plans changed unexpectedly; the good kind of change. We were going to continue prepping for a huge trial we’re starting on Monday (being a lawyer is not always so glamorous), but yesterday, we settled two days before trial (woo hoo!) Now I’m left with an open weekend and gorgeous weather (thank you, Miami!)  All of my siblings are in town on Spring Break (man, I miss Spring Break!) and it’s safe to say my instagram will be full of sister love.  We are thinking of playing tourist for a day and we’re going to try to head South to the Redlands and check out Robert is Here (the best fruit stand and farm) and Knaus Berry Farm (home of the most incredible strawberries and homemade sticky buns … i.e., we don’t leave without at least two dozen.)

This year, hubby and I have Thanksgiving dinners both Thursday and Friday, and I have a whole lot of cooking to do.  It’s always a dilemma trying to balance looking cute for guests while simultaneously boiling potatoes and checking the turkey.  This year, I’m going for flats, and a pretty apron to cover the guest-worthy look.  Plus, the loose-fitting peplum allows for plenty of pie-eating, the real beauty of the holiday!

Peplum shows no signs of slowing, so I thought I’d get wise to the trend and pick out a few edgier peplum pieces that could easily fit into my closet ( … okay, okay, my dream closet.)  While a flared peplum top looks great paired with a slim cut jean or pant, the peplum-on-peplum (a.k.a., peplum top worn over a flared skirt), the sweater or sweat-shirt worn over peplum, and the peplum-topped pencil skirt (my personal favorite), are fast-becoming the edgier peplum stand-outs for Fall.

I kind of love light wash denim.  Light-washed and white-washed denim always reminded me of beach chic California girls when I was little.  Probably because I associate worn-in light wash denim with Kelly Kapowski.  (haha, oh yes, I just went there — don’t you miss Saved By The Bell?  I do.  Like, all of the time.)

This summer’s light wash denim is a bit more grown-up, paired with sleek silk equipment blouses, peplum tops, and chic parkas.  But the rips remain, and that’s cool with me (all of the best pairs of denim have rips in them).
