15 Watches for Spring + Summer

Sometimes we spend so much time picking out that statement necklace or a bold pair of earrings, and we simply forget about the watches that we wear.  But it’s wrist-reveal season once again, and big bold watches are in.  A great watch is both functional and a fashion conversation-starter, and some of the latest styles, from floral print bands, wraps and stones, friendship bracelet straps, even throw-back tech-wear, are sure to make a statement.

Le Vie En Rose

I’m completely taken with Moda Operandi‘s latest campaign for Spring 2013. Chock full of roses in bloom and delicate vintage details, and put together like a well-read scrapbook of antique treasures, the glamorous Karlie Kloss models crush-worthy pieces like the Meadham Kirchhoff Yes Tee, the Suno Cutout Floral Dress, and the show-stopping Marc Jacobs Check Sequin Gown. I want it all.

That Giles Leather and Pegasus Gown is possibly the most beautiful dress I have ever seen … okay well, one of the most beautiful dresses I have ever seen (because I’ve seen a lot of good dresses.)

Versatile By Design: Six Stylish Looks With One Red Carpet Dress

When Mazda asked me to style one great dress in six fashion-forward ways to strut across a red carpet, I knew just what dress to choose.  Meet the ONE by Marna Ro maxi dress with leather bodice.  I’ve long-believed that a great black maxi dress can go a long way, and this dress, with it’s leather bodice detail, has enough oomph to last, season after season.  And Red Carpet fashion works exactly the same way – the best stylists add nods to current trends while keeping the dress bold, yet classic.  The Mazda CX-9 is no different, it’s innovative yet practical/useable design and sophisticated and timeless look always makes a striking statement and still gets you noticed.  (Dear magical fairies who drop shiny new cars with big red bows off:  feel free to surprise me with a gorgeous Mazda CX-9 in our front driveway … all black, of course.)

The Organized Creative: Lauren Messiah

This week I’m launching a new blog series: a look inside the organized (or not always so organized!) lives of our favorite creative types – bloggers, designers, event planners, artists, chefs, social media gurus, and beyond. Because I do the juggle, half a lawyer, half a blogger each and every day, I know what it means to balance a lot of spinning plates. And of course, I’m utterly Type-A, so I secretly love the organization part of it all. After getting to know a handful of great creative types my last few years of blogging, I’m always amazed at how they balance their unbelievably inspired lives. Though I have tried online organizational software, I always wind up coming back to the tried and true – a color-coded planner, matching pens, and far too many post-its. So here it is: a peek at some of my favorites and their impressive balance, how they get and stay inspired, and how they stay on top of it all!

First up, the fabulous Lauren Messiah: Stylist, Blogger behind LaurenMessiah.com, and President/Instructor at School Of Style.

Lauren’s can’t live without items: iPhone, Proenza Schouler PS1, kale chips, polka dot file folders, lipstick pen, Celine sunglasses, black ballpoint pen, mint green tea, mini Moleskin notebooks, J. Crew leopard “magic” wallet

1.) Take us through a busy day in the life of a stylist/blogger/business owner.

The best thing about what I do is that no two days are exactly the same but here is a typical day of me!

7:00am- Wake up. Check emails. Write a to-do list for the day

8:00am- Pilates at Circuit Pilates in Hollywood

9:30am- Get dressed in my favorite room of the house – my closet/dressing room

10:00am- Morning meeting with my assistants

10:30am- Answer emails

11:00am- Create mood boards then shop all day for my clients

5:30pm- Finish shopping/ bring clothes back to styling studio

6:00pm- Eat (at this point I’m starving) while my assistants set up the studio

7:00pm- Pre-style looks for client fittings

9:00pm- Work on projects for School of Style

10:00pm- Blog for LaurenMessiah.com

11:00pm- Answer more emails

12:00am- Pretend to go to bed when really I’m on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram

12:30am- Read

1:00am- Sleep

2.) What’s your go-to day-to-day planner of choice?  Are you a pen-to-paper kind of girl or is it all technology for you?

I am a mixture of an old-school paper kind of girl and a technology junkie. To be completely honest I do both but in a crazy OCD kind of way. I like the pizazz of technology but I feel most comfortable with pen and paper.

Each and every day I create a to-do list because I love the satisfaction of scratching things off of my list.

I also rely heavily on my iPhone. That is where I keep all of my styling contacts, check my emails, see what’s on my calendar, and geek out on all my social media apps.

3.) What is one tech accessory can you not live without?

My iPhone. Sadly it’s like an extension of my hand. Although sometimes I wish we could go back to the good old days where people couldn’t reach you 24/7. Remember answering machines and pseudo text messages on pagers? Yeah, those were the days.
